Privacy Policy

In short: QRLens runs entirely on your device. It has no accounts, no servers, and no analytics. Your screen captures and image files are never uploaded, and are never saved as images by the app.
Who this policy covers
This policy describes how the QRLens desktop application for Windows and macOS handles information. QRLens is published by IAM_DEV. It applies to the application itself and to this website.
No account, no sign-in
QRLens does not have user accounts. You are never asked for a name, an email address, a phone number, or a password, and there is nothing to register. The application treats your computer as having a single local user.
Screen and image content
QRLens can read QR codes from two sources: a region of your screen, and image files you choose from your disk.
- Screen captures are taken only when you ask for one, are used only to find a code in the region you select, and are likewise not retained as image files.
- Image files you open are read to decode the code inside them. QRLens does not copy, move, modify, or delete the original file.
None of this content is uploaded. QRLens does not send images or screen contents anywhere, and there is no server for it to send them to.
What is stored on your computer
QRLens keeps a local database and a log file inside a folder in your own user directory (.qrlens). The database holds:
- The decoded text of each scan
- Basic result information such as the kind of content, where the scan came from, when it happened, and whether you starred it
The log file records ordinary operational events, such as a scan succeeding or an error occurring, so problems can be diagnosed on your own machine. It rotates automatically and stays local.
All of this is stored only on your computer. It is not synchronized between devices, not backed up to any service, and not readable by IAM_DEV or anyone else.
Your control over stored data
You can delete any individual history entry from within the app, or clear the entire history at once. Removing the application's data folder from your user directory deletes everything QRLens has stored. There is nothing held elsewhere that would survive.
Network use
QRLens works fully offline and does not require an internet connection. The application does not contact IAM_DEV, does not check in, and does not download content.
Internally, the application's interface communicates with its own local scanning process over a private connection on your machine that is not reachable from the network.
The only time anything leaves your computer is when you deliberately choose to open a scanned link. In that case your default browser or mail application opens it, and from that point the destination site's own privacy practices apply. QRLens only ever hands off web and email addresses this way.
Analytics, advertising, and tracking
QRLens contains no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting service, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind. No usage data is collected.
Children
QRLens does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. It is a general-purpose utility with no social features and no content submission.
Permissions
Screen capture may require a screen-recording permission, which your operating system controls and which you can withdraw at any time in your system settings. Scanning image files continues to work without it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above. Because QRLens collects nothing, any change will be about clarity rather than new data practices.
